Bridge Book Shop

Adding the useful shop search that Squarespace did not provide

Bridge Book Shop needed customers to be able to search its online catalogue directly from the website header on both desktop and mobile.

The brief

Squarespace did not provide the header search experience the book shop needed. On a website with a large catalogue, asking customers to browse without a useful search tool was an unnecessary obstacle.

The solution had to work within the existing Squarespace website rather than forcing the client into a costly rebuild or a completely different platform.

What I did

I custom-coded a search control and results interface using JavaScript, then integrated it into the existing Squarespace header so it felt like a normal part of the website.

I later improved the original version so the search also worked properly within the mobile navigation, where a large proportion of customers would need it.

The result

Customers can now search the catalogue from a prominent and familiar position instead of relying on manual browsing.

The project shows that a small amount of focused custom development can solve a genuine problem without replacing an otherwise suitable website platform.

I build practical websites for small businesses without the agency performance, unnecessary extras or confusing technical talk.
